Interactive Design

Interactive:

  1. Immediately responsive to commands, data, etc… as opposed to systems arranged for batch processing.
Design:
  1. To form or conceive in the mind; contrive; plan
  2. The combination of details or features of a picture, building etc; the pattern or device of artistic work

With these definitions in mind, we can say that an interactive design is one in which a product is created for there to be a relationship between that product and its human user. The relationship can only work if a command is given by the human user to the product; otherwise it is an unsuccessful design. Interactive web pages, such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Myspace and YouTube, own their huge success to their web designers for making them easy for the users to navigate through the sites and adapt easily to the networking community.

Here are some other web design examples of Interactive Design:

Garfiled - Official Home Page

This web page is very interactive as it gives the viewer many options and activities to do in the time they spend on the site. There are many videos and animations that capture’s the viewer’s attention in an endeavour to get them involved in what the website has to offer.

Future Music Festival 2010 - Official Home Page

Located at the top of this web page is a gadget that plays music by the artists that played at the festival. The gadget’s arm follows the mouse and represents the viewer as they make decisions on which buttons they want to press such as play, stop or next.

David Guetta - Official Home Page

Viewers visiting the site are immediately confronted with a large sphere representing the planet Earth. Scrolling over the sphere turns the sphere in the direction and angle of the mouse’s movement. This action shows the viewer which countries and dates the artist will be performing at in the near future.
